Increase in knowledge
2 Peter 1:5 says,.....giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge. The word knowledge is translated from 3 different greek words in the Bible, the use of that word means different things in different verses. The greek language is richer in words than english, many times the translators struggled to give us an accurate picture of what the writers actually meant.
In this case(2 Peter1:5); the word knowledge is from the greek word “gnosis,” which means intellectual knowledge. Here he is not dealing with the revelation knowledge of the scriptures but rather with knowledge in various fields of study. If you are a medical doctor for example, he wants you to know as much as you can about that field. Don't become a dumb doctor, who is only limited to knowing the obvious. God wants his children to be erudite, he doesn't invest in dummies. He wants us well informed.
The reason he was able to use Moses and not the other 2 million slaves is because Moses was educated in all the wisdom of Egypt. God needed a refined mind that could catch with speed what he wanted done. Paul the Apostle wrote almost 70% of the new testament, yet he was not even among the disciples of Jesus. God could reason with his mind because he was well vested in knowledge. The man was schooled in the best schools of his day.
