3 Levels of Spiritual Growth.

1. The Children.

1 John 2:2 says; I write to you dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name. The little children are the new born Christians who have just come into the Lord. This group must be fed with milk of the Word, that they might grow spiritually (1 Peter 2:2). Paul on his letter to the church in Corinth wrote, “I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it” (1 Corinthians 3:2). The little children need to be protected from demons and the devil, so God takes the responsibility of helping them until they learn how fight the fight of faith.

2. The Young Men.

1 John 2:13 says; I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. The Young men are those Christians who are growing in the faith. Notice he says to this group, "you have overcome the evi". When you become a young man in the spirit, the Lord does not protect you from the Devil, he stands aside and let you defeat Satan with the Word of his power. In this level you understand that Satan is a defeated foe, and that you have authority over him. Jesus said, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you” (Luke 10:18-19).

3. The Fathers.

1 John 2:3 says; I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. The Bible says God, “made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel” ( Psalm 103:7). Moses knew the ways of God, but Israel knew his acts, in other words, God discusses with the fathers before doing anything in the earth. Before destroying the city of Sodom and Gomorrah he discussed with Abraham, he gave Abraham the power to stop him from destroying that city. “And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do”( Genesis 18:17). In fact the Lord cannot do anything in the earth without first consulting with this group. Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets. (Amos 3:7). The fathers rule whim, they are those who walk in the fullness of knowledge and understanding.
