Christ Our Passover Lamb

In Exodus 12:1-11 the Lord instructed that each and every household within the Israelites was to set apart a lamb, this lamb would be one without blemish or any defects. After 14 days they were to kill the lambs and take the blood and put on the door frames of their houses. After they did what the Lord instructed them to do, the Lord said; “I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt……... And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt” (Exodus 12:12-13). The blood on their door frames was a hedge of protection over the children of Israel, this means when the angel of judgement passed through the land of Egypt he killed every first born male in that land but where there was blood he did not have the permission to touch the lives of those people.

John 1:29 says, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. Revelations 17:4 says, the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings. When the Lord instructed the children of Israel to set apart a lamb without blemish, that lamb was symbolic of Christ because he was to become the sacrifice for all man. When they slaughtered the lamb it was symbolic of Christ being crucified, when they put the blood on their door frames, it was symbolic of the blood of Jesus which washes away our sins. This act was very spiritual in that when they did what the Lord instructed, to them it might have been a lamb but God the Father was looking at the crucifixion of his Son. The Angel of Death could not enter their house holds not because they more special than the Egyptians, but because the blood of Christ was on their door posts. Today when you are born again, the same blood which was on their door frames becomes a hedge of protection over your life. Because of the blood Satan is restricted from touching your life, because of the blood death does not have power over you. This is why he told us, “A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee” (Psalm 91:7).
