Live above the flesh

It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4).

According to Jesus there are two kinds of foods, Bread and the Word. The bread is the everyday food which we eat, it’s purpose is to nourish the body. The Word is the spiritual food meant for the human spirit. Man needs both foods to survive, if he feeds on the bread alone, and starves his spirit, he will die spiritually, and if he feeds the spirit and neglects the body, his body will die.

Physical food is to the body what the Word of God is to the spirit man. When we eat physical food, our bodies get strengthened, and nourished. When we don’t eat, it will result in weight loss and physical weakness. It is the same thing with the spirit of man, when we don’t feed on the Word of God, our spirits become weak, and we become easy targets for Satan and his forces.

The most important thing for any Christian is to build his/her spirit strong with the Word of God. The only way we can have faith in God is when we feed on the Word. “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). Christianity is a calling to a life of the supernatural, we are called to live the God kind of life in the earth, a life of kingship and dominion over all situations and circumstances. The only way we can live this life is when our Spirits are educated with the Word of God, we must so soak our spirits into the Word until we become the Word of God made flesh. This is our high calling in Christ, that we might manifest his virtues, excellencies and perfections in this life (1 Peter 2:9). In other words, we are called to reign with the Word of God, to rule over the elements of this world with the Word. Paul wrote, “when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world” (Galatians 4:3), that means he is not expecting us to remain children. Reigning over the elements of this world is through spiritual maturity, which comes by feeding on the Word.
