The Father & Jesus
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent (John 17:3).
If you study the life of Jesus, you will discover that everything about him centered around the will of the Father. He lived only to please the Father, every day of his life was an act of obedience to the will and plan of the Father. My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work (John 4:34). He went where the Father said to go, did what the Father said to do and spoke the words the Father said to speak. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me (John 6:38). For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken (John 12:49). Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does (John 5:19).
Of course he had his own mind, he had a choice to live any kind of life he wanted, he had enough wisdom to do things his way, but he humbled himself and walked in obedience to the will of the Father. He gave up his rights of being a free agent, to become a servant of God. This should be an example to every Minister of the gospel. His death was an act of obedience to the Father, it was the Father’s will that he should die for the sins of the world. Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; (Hebrews 5:8).
Why was it so, you may ask, why was it required of him to walk in obedience to the point of death? Because, by obeying the Father, and doing everything the Father’s way, he revealed the ways of his Father to the world. The Father lived out his life through Jesus. This is why he could say, …..he that hath seen me hath seen the Father (John 14:9). The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being (Hebrews 1:3). By looking at Jesus we know the heart of the Father. Jesus Christ is the way the Father has chosen to make himself known to the world. Jesus Christ is the will of the Father, he is the only way to the Father. In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways; but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe (Hebrews 1:1-2).
