The Question is not whether God speaks or not, the question is, what do you do with what he has shown you. He always has a purpose for revealing whatever he is showing you, and its not to entertain us.
1. Desire
A burning desire to do something, accompanied by peace, joy, and love is from the Lord and a strong desire to do something, accompanied by fear, anxiety, unsettled spirit is from the flesh. 1 Chronicles 22:7 “And David said to Solomon: My son, it was my desire to have built a house to the name of the Lord my God”.
2. Inner Witness
This is knowing something with your spirit, this knowledge is usually backed by inward evidence that the thing will definitely happen before You see it physically, You just know that You Know. Acts 27:10 “Paul admonished them, and said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives”.
3. Inward Revelation
This is an unveiling of something which you knew, but this time you know it in a new way, with a new understanding. You get inside information from the Spirit of God. Ephesians 1:17 “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened”.
4. Thoughts
Sometimes the Spirit of God can inspire thoughts into your mind, you will find that you are thinking something which you wouldn't be thinking about in your natural state of mind. These thoughts can be repetitive, or will keep coming even when you ignore or forget about them. I remember somewhere in 2017, these words New World kept coming to my mind, of course I ignored them, but they repeated for the whole day, and everyday for the whole week. I kept thinking New World, until my attention was arrested, and I thought to myself, what is this New World thing, naturally I would not be thinking about something like that. It does not even make natural sense to be thinking New World, but it makes very good spiritual sense. After this I understood the Lord was telling me something, and it happened exactly like he said, I am currently in that New World. John 16:13 “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth. Mind pictures can come like flashes, a picture will appear before your mind eye, mostly it will be something you are not even thinking about”.
5. Mind Pictures
Mind Pictures can be defined as flashing images into your mind of something you were not thinking about. It can take less than a second for the picture to appear and go, with these you can see the future or receive guidance from the Holy Spirit.
6. Emotional burden
This happens when you are burdened from within to do something, the thing becomes so heavy that you cannot but think about it, you can try to ignore it, but it will keep coming back to your mind. That’s God telling you to deal with that matter, it is a burden from the Lord. John 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
7. Circumstances, Events & Situations
Something which is happening in your life, especially when it repeats too often, could be signaling something God is trying to get across to you. This can come via any natural situation, maybe a movie, a song, a writing on a bill board, a number or time ( Spiritual numbers=3, 7, 888, 00:00, 777, 12, 10, 40, 6,), your child doing something that signals something, it can be anything. God used circumstances to tell Pharaoh to let his people go, the gospel of Jesus Christ came to us because the disciples were persecuted in Jerusalem, and they fled to other countries and opened churches there.
8. Types and shadows
This happens when God is revealing the future through present circumstances, whatever is happening now is a type of what is coming. Isaac was a type of Christ, Joseph was a type of Christ, the Manna from heaven was a type of Christ. The Rock which supplied water for the Israelite in the desert was a type of Christ, Jonah being in the belly of the fish for 3 days and 3 nights was symbolic of Christ being in the grave for 3 days and 3 nights.
9. The Word
2 Timothy 3:16 says, All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. His Word contains the answers to every question we may have in this life.The Word is the complete wisdom and knowledge of God put into paper. You can trust the Word and make life decisions based on what it says. Through the Word he can guide, instruct, direct, comfort his people.
10. Dreams and Visions
For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it. He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they lie in their beds. He whispers in their ears… Job 33:14-16. Most of the times that God will speak to you through dreams, the dream will contain a lot of symbolism which will need interpretation. For instance seeing a Rock would mean Christ, Wind mean the Holy Spirit, Bread means Christ, Marriage means a covenant. There is a lot of symbols, I cannot mention everything here, but if you need them, drop mean email, I will send them to you. Sometimes the dream can be direct, he can give you the message in the language you understand. There are 2 sources of dreams, the first is your imagination and the second is your spirit man. Dreams from your imagination are everyday events or deep thoughts hidden in you mind, therefore these are not from God. Spiritual dreams are activities happening in the realm of spirit and your spirit man picks this up whilst you are sleeping.
11. Small Voice
........and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire [a]a still small voice 1 Kings 19:12. This voice is so pure and clear, you cannot miss it. The sharpness of voice is strong, yet its sound is low, but it will hit home. This voice whispers from your spirit, you can be in a very busy and noisy place, but when this voice comes, you will hear it very clearly.
12. The Audible Voice
The audible voice will sound like the voice of another human being. This voice is loud that you might even hear it with your natural ears. If you read when God called Samuel, you will discover that Samuel thought it a man's voice which spoke to him. God uses this voice when he wants to communicate something important, its not everyday that he will communicate this way. Then the Lord called Samuel.Samuel answered, “Here I am.” 5 And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me. But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.6 Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”“My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” 1 Samuel 3:4-6
13. People
God may use a friend, a teacher, a parent, or a preacher to convey His message of truth to us. A human being can come and give you an answer to something you have been praying about. Like a man's Elijah Servant, but it is not the hand of man, it is the the Hand of God. ......"A cloud as small as a man's hand is rising from the sea."....1 Kings 18:44
