“To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:19). Righteousness is the nature of God that is imparted in your human spirit when you’re born again; it is a gift from God. It produces in you the ability to stand in the presence of God without a sense of inferiority, condemnation or guilt. According to the gospel of righteousness, a Christian is not someone who doesn’t do wrong. He is one whose wrongs have been charged to the account of Jesus. He walks free, not because he has always done the right things or because he never does wrong, but because every time he does something wrong, that wrong has been charged to the account of Jesus. So he walks free like someone who never did something wrong. Isn’t this good news? It means you can live without a sense of condemnation. Not because you don’t feel like you’ve done some things wrong, but because even though you have knowledge of those things, you won’t be punished for them. Righteousness gives you the rightness of God and the ability to live rightly in the sight of God. As long as you believe in Jesus, the righteousness of God has come to you as a gift. All you have to do is accept it; it would produce in you what it talks about in you. If right now, you are troubled because you still do wrong things, not to worry, the righteousness you have received has the power to produce in you the rightness of God such that by instinct you will know what is right. The gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of righteousness. It’s great news, and the whole world ought to hear it!
