The communion of the Holy Spirit

2Corinthians 13: 14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. First, the word “communion” means presence. God the Father’s desire for you is that the sweet presence of the Holy Spirit will be with you. The presence of the Holy Spirit is the presence of the Lord, and in His presence is “fullness of joy” and at His right hand, there “are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11 ). Second, it means fellowship. You simply fellowship with the Holy Spirit. And you should seek that communion as you would seek water in the wilderness. The third meaning is sharing together. You pour out your heart and He pours out His. You share your joy and He shares His. Even decisions concerning doctrine in the early church were not made without Him. Every decision was dependent upon His communion. Fourth, communion means participation with. The Holy Spirit becomes your partner. The Scripture, filled with phrases like, “working with them” and “the Spirit and us,” makes it clear that the work of the Spirit is in participation with you. He is also the Helper, so sometimes participation with us takes the form of helping us, as in Romans 8:26 : “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities…” Are you listening for His voice? Are you ready to commune with Him?
