1. The New Birth a Must. It’s impossible to be a Christian apart from the new spiritual birth. Jesus speaking to Nicodemus said “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3). According to Jesus, Nicodemus and everyone need to have two birthdays. Without the new birth, man is hopeless, separated from God and condemned as a sinner. The new birth can only be produced by the Holy spirit when we accept the Lordship of Jesus Christ in our lives. (Rom 10:9). The natural human birth cannot make one a child of God, for what is born of flesh is flesh, so going to church cannot make one a Christian, you can only become a Christian when you are born again of the Spirit of God. 2. Baptism of the Holy Spirit. No one can live the authentic Christian life without the Holy Spirit. Being born again and the baptism of the Spirit are two different things, When you’re born again, the Spirit comes to live in you (1 Corinthians 6:19), whereas when you’re baptized in the Spirit, you are filled with the Spirit or immersed with the Spirit. The born again experience will invite the Holy Spirit to live in you, but his ministry will not be working in your life until you are Baptized with the Spirit. Speaking in tongues is the initial physical evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Jesus lives in us through the Holy Spirit; he talks, helps, guides, and teaches us through the Holy Spirit. John 16:18-19 4. Water Baptism Water Baptism happens when one is dipped into water and lifted out. The dipping symbolizes death to sin through Christ, and the lifting up symbolizes resurrection to a new life. Romans 6:4 "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life". Water Baptism is also symbolic of our final separation from the world, just as the children of Israel were completely separated from Egypt by the crossing of the Red sea, we are separated from the world through Water baptism. 1 Corinthians 10:1;3
