He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself... (1 Corinthians 14:4).
The Word “Edify” in the above verse is from the Greek word “oikodomeo,” which means to construct or build up. The idea given to us by the Spirit of God is that when we speak in other tongues, we build ourselves up, like an edifice, brick by brick, as you would a physical structure (Jude 1:20). The more you pray in Tongues, is the more you are strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man (Ephesians 3:16). If you feel weak or discouraged, just speak in tongues, the anointing of God Spirit will well up from within you, and strength will suddenly come upon you.
In Acts 20:32, Paul said to the brethren at Ephesus “And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up....” Connecting this with our text lets us know that speaking in tongues works in conjunction with the Word of God. If you want to grow stronger spiritually, not only should you speak in tongues but also study and listen to God’s Word frequently.
When you spend time building your spirit, nothing in this life can stand against you successfully. Life is spiritual and everything has its root from the realm of spirit, so whenever you work on building your spirit man, you decide what happens with you, rather than things happening to you.
